Description
SCCF restores wildlife habitat through projects such as planting mangroves and other native vegetation, removing invasive plant species and building oyster reefs from discarded shells that will provide shelter for other marine organisms. Marine and wildlife research provides valuable knowledge for guiding natural resource management decisions.
SCCF partners with Captiva Cruises to give visitors a first hand experience out on the waters of Pine Island Sound where birds, fishes and other wildlife such as dolphins reside. SCCF assists in the training of docents and crew members. Captiva Cruises contributes funds to further the educational goals of SCCF.
SCCF was established as a not-for-profit in 1967. SCCF actively acquires land on the barrier islands to set aside as wildlife preserves. Wildlife education programs, tours, walks and talks are scheduled throughout the year and posted on the website at www.sccf.org
