Description

Sweeping over more than a thousand acres of sand dunes, mangrove swamp and pine-scrub-oak habitat, Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge is the spot to be if you're hoping to see (avoid being seen)- scrub jays, the gopher tortoise, a flashy school of fish, and maybe a bobcat if you're lucky. Splash about in Peck Lake, an easy walk from the refuge via the beach route, or enjoy a quick jaunt along a local self-interpreted nature trail. Try to catch a guided turtle walk in June and July if you can squeeze a few hours into your schedule during summer months.
