Mangrove swamps sink in a tangle of limbs below the dark waters forming part of De Soto Natinoal Memorial, a park commemorating the historic landing of explorer Hernando de Soto in the 16th-century. Living history exhibits from December to April provide visitors with an easy introduction to the distant past, while sandy beaches, nature trails and birding opportunities lend to the list of options for outdoorsy fun.
