Description

The Caloosahatchee River is a broad, gentle river that flows into the gulf and drains the area north of the Everglades, beginning at about the center of the southern part of the state. The river runs 75 miles long.

Because the river is part of the Everglades ecosystem, it's very naturally rich. Manatees are protected in a federal wildlife refuge near Fort Myers, along the river.
